We are pleased to announce that the First World Summit on Competency-Based Education is scheduled in Barcelona, Spain on 27th and 28th August 2016 as a pre-conference activity.

One of the most important trends in the last decade has been the move to competency-based/outcome-based education.  The summit, organized by the International Competency Based Medical Education Collaborators (ICBMEC), provides a forum for experienced individuals or those new to the theme to share information and innovations and to explore further developments in the field.  The summit will include plenary sessions, short communications, poster presentations and ‘how-to’ workshops.

Programme

The First World Summit on Competency-Based Education will take place August 27 and 28, 2016 as an AMEE Pre-Conference activity with educational sessions all day Friday and Saturday. Outstanding plenaries, panel discussions, and debates designed to stimulate discussion about defining CBME, assessment in CBME, and program evaluation will be presented. There will be three parallel tracks highlighting

(i) CBME 101: An Introduction to CBME;

(ii) Innovation & Research in CBME;

(iii) Emergent designs & cutting edge work in CBME.

  • Poster Presentations in CBME Research
  • Poster presentation in CBME Innovations

Abstract Submission

The International Competency Based Medical Education Collaborators request submissions in the following formats:

  • Workshop.  Submitted proposals for workshops should be highly interactive with defined outcomes and be designed to be 60 minutes in length. Submissions should include: background, purpose, format, expected outcomes for participants. (Note: at least 50% of the workshop should be interactive.)
  • Oral Research Presentation.  This type of oral presentation (designed for 10 minutes) should report on completed research. Submissions should include: background, research question, methods (population, data collection and analysis methods), results, conclusions.
  • Oral Innovations Presentation.  This type of oral presentation (designed for 10 minutes) should report on innovative work in CBME that may be underway but not completed.  Submissions should include: background, purpose, interventions, results/applications, future directions. (10 minutes)
  • Poster presentation in CBME Research.  Poster presentations present completed research on a display board. Submissions should include: background, research question, methods (population, data collection and analysis methods), results, conclusions.
  • Poster presentation in CBME Innovations.  Poster presentations present innovations on a display board. Submissions should include: background, purpose, interventions, results/applications, future directions. (10 minutes)

Abstracts should include:

  • Title
  • Authors and their institutional affiliations
  • Synopsis of 2-3 sentences
  • Body of abstract (maximum 300 words)
  • Elements noted above for each submission type
  • Funding sources (if applicable)

Criteria for selection are:

  • Potential contribution to the advancement of CBME research and practice
  • Quality of research design and methodology (Research Papers)
  • Quality of educational design and evaluation (Innovations)
  • Clarity
  • Ability to illuminate the key themes
  • Use of innovative approaches
  • International scope or impact
  • Engaging and interactive presentation (workshops)

If your abstract is accepted, you (and your co-presenter/s):

  • Are expected to present at the Summit
  • Must pay all expenses to present and attend the Congress (e.g., preparation of the presentation/ poster, registration fee, travel, hotel, etc.)

Payments

Payment must be remitted by credit card or by bank transfer (accepting both sender and recipient bank charges) in Euros € only.  Please ensure that bank transfers are remitted to the Worldspan account as detailed on the invoice and not to the AMEE account. If you request to pay by invoice, please make sure that you provide accurate details in order for your payment to be processed by your institution, including any purchase order numbers, contact name, department and full address to which the invoice should be addressed to. It is the delegates’ responsibility to ensure prompt payment.

Payment should be remitted to Worldspan prior to commencement of the conference. Only by prior agreement may payment be made onsite at the registration desk.

We strongly recommend you take out insurance to cover any potential loss of registration fees, travel and accommodation costs that might result from any medical condition, family death or illness or accident that may preclude your attendance at the conference, or that may necessitate treatment while in Spain.

Terms and Conditions relating to registration for AMEE Conference 27-31 August 2016 to be held in Barcelona, Spain

1. Completion of the registration information signifies acceptance of the terms and conditions set out below.
2. The registration fees may only be paid in Euros (€) irrespective of your country of origin.
3. The Summit Registration fee includes: Two-day or One-day Summit, including coffee, lunch (also evening reception for Saturday attendance) and the option to submit an abstract for consideration for inclusion in the programme
4. Travel to Barcelona and accommodation is NOT included in the registration fee.
5. Payment may be made by credit/debit card (VISA, Mastercard) or bank transfer in Euros (€) only. All payments must be made prior to the start of the Conference unless prior arrangements have been made to make payment at the registration desk.
6. Cancellation policy for registration – a refund of previously paid registration fees will be made as follows – Notification in writing by 25 May 2016: full refund less GBP €75 administration fee; Notification in writing by 1 July 2016: 50% refund; Notification after 1 July: no refund.
7. Please note in the event of cancellation, bank or credit card charges incurred by AMEE will not be refunded.
8. This contract is governed by the laws of Scotland.
