Abstracts were invited for presentation in the following formats:

  1. Short communications - Deadline for submissions has passed
  2. Posters - Deadline for submissions has passed
  3. Fringe presentation - Deadline for submissions has passed
  4. Conference workshops - Deadline for submissions has passed
  5. PhDs report - Submission date passed
  6. Secrets of Success - Deadline for submissions has passed
  7. Research paper - Deadline for submissions has passed

In order to assist in the categorisation of abstracts, submitters were asked to identify up to six keywords for each abstract from the list provided.


Short Communications

Short communications are presented in themed groups. Ten minutes is allowed for each presentation followed by 5 minutes for questions. Fifteen minutes is provided for a group discussion at the end of the session where time permits.

Structure: Background; summary of work; summary of results; conclusions; take-home messages; keywords (abstract headings will be pre-populated into the online submission fields, therefore you do not need to include them in your abstract).

Word Limit: Strictly 200 words maximum

Posters

Posters will be on display throughout the Conference, grouped into themes. Presenters are asked to attend the themed poster sessions scheduled in the final programme and to give a 2 minute introduction of the main messages of the poster. A group discussion follows after all the presentations.

Fringe

Two sessions of Fringe presentations have been scheduled. 12 minutes has been allocated per presentation.

Structure: May be written in any format; keywords from selected list

Conference Workshop

Conference workshops are 90 minutes’ duration and are highly interactive and ‘hands-on’, with minimum formal presentations by facilitators.

Structure: Background; intended outcomes; structure; intended audience; level of workshop (beginner/intermediate/advanced); keywords (abstract headings will be pre-populated into the online submission fields, therefore you do not need to include them in your abstract).

PhD reports

PhD Papers are reports of PhDs in medical/healthcare professions education. Presentation will be 20 minutes’ duration followed by 10 minutes for questions.

Structure: Introduction (including clear research question(s)); methods; results (actual results must be included in the submission); discussion and conclusion; references (maximum of 2); keywords (abstract headings will be pre-populated into the online submission fields, therefore you do not need to include them in your abstract).

Word Limit: Strictly 400 words maximum

Secrets of Success

Secrets of Success are short descriptions of innovations that will be demonstrated at the Conference.

Structure: Short description of innovation; what will be demonstrated; what is particularly interesting about the innovation/how it could be implemented; why participants should come to the demonstration; keywords (abstract headings will be pre-populated into the online submission fields, therefore you do not need to include them in your abstract).

Research Papers

Research paper sessions are devoted specifically to medical educational research. Twelve minutes will be allocated for presentation followed by 8 minutes for discussion.

Structure: Introduction (including clear research question(s)); methods; results (actual results must be included in the submission); discussion and conclusion; references (maximum of 2); keywords (abstract headings will be pre-populated into the online submission fields, therefore you do not need to include them in your abstract).

Word Limit: Strictly 400 words maximum

Please Note: no tables should be included as the online system is unable to accept the format. All research paper submissions will go through a first part review phase to ensure they adhere to the required format. Submissions that are successful at this stage will be sent for further review. Authors of abstracts chosen for full review will be provided with in-depth feedback. Decisions on research paper submissions will be sent to submitters in early March. Submissions that are not selected either after the first part review or at the later stage are eligible, after reformatting to the standard 200 word abstract to submit an abstract to be considered for the normal AMEE abstract review process, with a submission deadline of 12 March.

Conditions

Please Note:

  • AMEE reserves the right to remove abstracts from the programme if the presenter has not registered by 31 May.
  • Acceptance of an abstract is conditional upon the presenter registering for the Conference and arranging payment by 31 May. All communication will be with the submitter of the abstract. If the submitter is not the presenter, it is the submitter’s responsibility to ensure that the presenter registers by the due date.
  • Due to the high numbers of abstracts anticipated, it is unlikely we will be able to offer more than one presentation per participant.
  • Any change in presenter must be notified to the AMEE Office by 31 May.

Audio-visual provision & Room Layouts:

Short communications, Research and PhD papers: All presentation rooms will be in theatre style and will be equipped with a computer, including sound, screen and a data projector/beamer. It is not possible to use your own computer for short communications and hard wired internet connection is not available.

Posters: No audio-visuals are available except for the poster and the abstract.

Fringe: Rooms will be equipped with a computer, including sound, screen and a data projector/beamer. It is not possible to use your own computer and hard wired internet connection is not available, wireless access will be available.

Conference workshops: Rooms will be set up with tables and chairs to the rooms maximum capacity and will be equipped with a computer, including sound, screen, data projector/beamer and a flipchart and pens. Hard wired internet access will not be available. We will contact you about to seek any additional requirements after acceptance of the abstract.

Secrets of Success: An exhibition booth with wifi internet, screen and data projector is allocated for allocated session. Participants should provide own computer if necessary.
